I ran across a new book and ordered it today entitled The Wisdom to Know the Difference: When to Make a Change — And When to Let Go. It looks like an interesting read from the first chapter preview on Amazon.
All of us have wrestled with the dilemma of trying to decide when enough is enough. This is the impetus of the book. The author, Eileen Flanagan, grew up as a Catholic and converted to the Society of Friends later in life. She addresses the spiritual concept of discernment through the lens of Reinhold Niebuhr’s version of the serenity prayer: “God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.” The book promises to find the balance between fatalism and hyper-individualism. I look forward to reading it and giving a full review later!
Oh, and the book was endorsed by the Dalai Lama….it must not be too shabby! Check out the first chapter for free, and see what you think.
